Robert S. Murphy has 30 years of experience in the defense, litigation and jury trial of complex products liability, negligence, contract and commercial cases, including wrongful death, motor vehicle, premises liability, employment, insurance coverage and defamation matters. This includes the defense of airframe manufacturers, product manufacturers, component part manufacturers, distributors and/or sellers, airlines and their employees, as well as insurance carriers. Mr. Murphy also has maintained a subrogation practice for insurance related claims for the last 30 years. During the course of this representation, Mr. Murphy has represented individual, corporate and/or municipal defendants in the courts of all boroughs of New York City, as well as Long Island and most of Upstate New York. He has represented clients in all Federal Courts located in the State of New York. He advises athletes and sports/entertainment entities on legal and franchise issues.
Mr. Murphy has been a member of the law firm of Murphy & McKenna LLC since its inception in 2006. From 1996 through 2006 he was a principal in the Law Offices of Robert S. Murphy. Prior thereto he was a partner in a large Manhattan insurance defense firm and spent 5 years as a Vice President in the claims department of United States Aviation Underwriters, Inc. He graduated from Columbia University in 1977 and received his Juris Doctor degree from Boston College Law School in 1980. He was admitted to the Bar of the State of New York in 1981, and is admitted to the Southern, Northern, Eastern and Western Districts of the Federal Courts in New York. Mr. Murphy has tried cases on a pro hac vice basis in both Connecticut and New Jersey.
He is a member of the New York State Bar Association, as well as its Torts and Insurance Practice Section, and is a member of the New York State Trial Lawyers. He is a charter member of the Aviation Crime Prevention Institute. He is a member of the Sachems Honor Society of Columbia University. |
